Re: Securing Dog Crate

My dog rides in the cab with me as well but I cannot imagine failing to secure a box back in the bed. Just for having to veer hard to avoid something or having to brake hard it would make sense. Now, if the fellow who doesn't secure his just putts down a rural road a couples of miles from his house ...

Looks like he'll have a pretty dark face.

My setter pup is at 9 months and he'll point and stalk anything that flies. Still learning that bees are best left alone!

Welcome Miss Lovely...whew, if you're going to start to hunt, you have a lot of work to do. First on the list is whatever hunter safety course is required by your State. Then some practice on clays. BTW, the wing on a string thing is completely unnecessary. Sounds like a great pup but for the biting...

A nice stylish point from my 7 month old Llew yesterday. I wasn't there but wifey said it was a wild bird at the field's edge. Probably a grouse or woodcock but it could have been a dove for all I know. He still points anything that flies! http://i1383.photobucket.com/albums/ah315/NEhomer/Whip/a4c1c...

Re: Building a remote launcher help

I just bought a $40 remote controlled motorcycle toy from Radio Shack. The rider servo is quite strong and it works out to 80-100ft which has been plenty for my short ranging setter. Nothing to charge, nothing to program, works like a charm.

Sorry I can't help with your question.

He ate a full meal this morning and is as chipper as ever. Yeah, maybe he's been overfed but he's such a skinny pup. I suppose it's the breed and it's not as if his ribs are showing or anything.

Seems fine at this point but I'll run him through this course of anti-Biotics.

Thanks nevermind. He seems to be fine again this evening. What's funny is that as a little puppy, he practically breathed in his food. We spread it out on a plate just to slow the pace of ingestion.

Maybe as an adult, he'll just be finicky.

A few weeks ago my Whip started having some trouble swallowing and became disinterested in his food. Took him to the vet and they did an x-ray. She determined that he had a case of tonsillitis. Well I can add a 300 dollar vet visit to my purchase price. He wasn't able to swallow and needed an xray. Luckily it appears to just be tonsilitis so he's got meds and soft food for a few days.

An extra $500 on a hunting dog is like $50 per season or in other words a bag of dog food a year. An extra 5 dollars is a lot when your pockets are empty or the kids need school supplies. I know many will say they have no business with a puppy if they are in that shape. But I would rather think the...

What one pays for an upland hunting pup pales in comparison to what they will spend on the dog over the course of it's life . so purchase price isn't really the BIG factor for me. I dunno, maybe allow him to get a little closer to the prize. I'm sure he'd enjoy it as the birds have been mostly a frustrating game of chase and he'll eventually need to carry them if he's going to retrieve.

My setter pup's 6 months now. I've been doing yard work and whoa stuff and releasing a few feral pigeons in front of him. He's very birdy and does nothing but hunt when he's outside.
