Re: Next phase: very beginning intro to whoa
Sorry misunderstood you. I agree with vman fly away drills will get the dog used to seeing birds flying away as part of the game and chasing is fruitless. As time progresses after getting the dog to stand longer is good as long as at the end there is some reward. If you use a barrel to teach whoa on...

I am reading your post and you have, what seems to me contradicted yourself. "Never shot at birds' "Birds harvested". It sounds like you have an idea but not a plan. A proper training plan allows you to teach the dog specific behaviors in the yard without the presence of birds. When you expect behav...

Dogs use strategies to get what they want . In your case they jump on the door to get your attention to get to go inside. If you train a different behavior that they would use to get your attention and ignore the jumping on the door. They will use the new behavior as long as it is rewarding to them....

Place the collar at the top of the dogs neck, put two fingers inside the collar. Tighten the collar down on the two fingers so they can be removed. The collar being at the top of the dogs neck will stay snug as this is the smallest area of the neck, and if it slides down it will get tighter.
