Thanks weimdog. My grandson and I had a great time. The local PF chapter did an outstanding job. The second photo in the first post has my Brittany, Bree backing with me to the right and my grandson moving up to harvest his first pheasant.

Dakotazeb, your trainer should resolve your concerns but since you are typically the handler, you will need to understand the rules of engagement. Somehow, dogs know if YOU know. I use wild pigeons to exhaust a dog's penchant for chasing. Once they get the picture RELIABLY, I transition into quail/...

The pedigree function on this site is no longer available from what I know. If you want to create an online pedigree I would recommend that you go to gundogcentral.com You can create pedigrees on that site and in fact you might find that some of the dogs in the pedigree are already out there.

He probably doesn't need to be on PP Sport 30/20 but he does need to be on a better food than Pedigree. Pedigree is a fairly low quality dog food. Look at the first ingredient, Whole Ground Corn. You don't say what brand of dog food you are feeding but a formula with 22% protein and 14% fat is probably our problem. If your dogs are getting as much exercise as you say then you need a kibble that is at least 30% protein and 20% fat. You need to change your food rather than add olive oil.

I have the Alpha. You can set it so the handheld will emit a tone and/or vibrate when the dog goes on point. My biggest complaint is that the tone is so faint I can't hear it in the field and the vibrate is so weak I can't feel it unless I'm holding the unit. So, for those of you with the Pro550 Plu...

Back to the original question. Spay or neuter will have no effect what so ever on the dog's performance in the field. I have a 3 year old female Brittany that was spayed at 2 and her prey drive is still "over the top" according my trainer.

I don't like the term "force fetch". I prefer to call it "trained retrieve". If I was you I wouldn't be so negative about training the dog to retrieve. A dog that retrieves...

I see on the NSTRA web site that the trial I told you about by Delta, CO has been cancelled.
