Great looking dog. I've always had an interest in the Picardy Spaniels including the Blue Picardy. Over the past few years I've kept in contact with Vice Aiello in Calgary as he has some Blue's. He has been running them in some NSTRA trials in Montana and this September I was able to get out to a tr...

Re: English Setter Confusion
NAVHDA/NSTRA/Hunt tests tend to elicit a more handler dominant/obedience based/mechanical type performance, IMO. I don't know how you can lump NSTRA in with NAVHDA and hunt tests. NSTRA is a totally different venue. I personally feel that NSTRA is closer to actual hunting than any other field trial...

I'm not aware of anyone making a beeper/training collar that also has GPS capabilities. Guess you could buy a Garmin Alpha or Sportdog TEK and add a beeper to it but that's a lot of stuff hanging around the dogs neck. I think that you would be hard pressed to find a supplement that has the nutrients that a quality dog food has. On days that your dog is working hard just up the amount you feed. On non-hunting days my Brittany gets 1 3/4 - 2 cups. On days we hunt I'll give her 3 cups. Now, with all that said, I do ...

Otherwise, stress obedience and then give your dog as much exposure to wild birds as possible. If the dog has the breeding they will quickly figure it ou...

I was just telling my buddy this weekend that i'd love a beeper function on my garmin. We're hunting in SD this past week and working milo stubble in snow. When I had beeper collars I used them solely in "Point Only" mode for the purpose of being able to find my dogs in thick cover when they were on point. Re: Running on full stomach?
The most common thinking is to feed once a day in the evening. Not in the morning. It gives the dog ample time to digest their food. Dogs run and work better on an empty stomach. Yeah, a 100 yd. run is virtually nothing. That wouldn't even get the dog warmed up. Running 20 to 30 minutes would be muc...

My question is: Why are you taking a 5 month old pup to a trainer in the first place? Like others have said, it's way too young for any serious training. Put the dog in a crate! Problem solved, and it's a whole lot safer for the pooch. If you are ever in an accident or have to make an emergency stop a loose dog can become a projectile in a vehicle injuring both the humans and the dog.
