Thank you all for the feedback, I really appreciate it. Corry pick puppy with BIGGEST HEAD. big head means more room for brains.i am from old school and thats how most of my pups over 46 yrs are picked. but when you are 8th on pick you get what is left. you are low on pick,so use the HEAD. When you reintroduce it, remember a collar can be used on the flank as well and use the lowest level possible. Only use high levels to discourage chasing things (like deer) or when you need to stop them to avoid danger, i.e. like a road with traffic if they are ignoring your recall command.

Fit is most important. I hope the identical guns fit you both equally well, otherwise identical guns will be a poor choice. If going for used I'd be inclined to purchase a newer gun with screw-in choke tubes for greater flexibility under different shooting situations.

No one has adressed the role of hormones & olfactory receptors. Humans have about 5,000,000 receptors & canines about 220,000,000. Male canines tend to change behavior when exposed to a female's hormones. If you don't believe me take a couple of relatively docile males (in some cases even neutered m...

Every situation is a little different. Talk with the breeder about the home situation & what you're looking for in a dog. A quality breeder will help pick out the right pup for you, from what is left after picks 1 & 2. An experienced breeder interacting with the pups daily can usually identify trait...

Ther is only one advantage to being a 16 ga enthusiast....good guns are cheap. I have found more nice 16 ga S x S's over the years in out of the way gun shops for very little money....not many folks want them. I feed twice a day when the dogs aren't working to give them something to look forward to when they're bored. When they are working, it's once a day. When hunting, if food is offered in the morning all the dogs refuse to eat. Could it be they instinctively know it's not the right thing to do? I keep...

What people are trying to say nicely is hunting dogs & dogs in general have a prey drive to locate & eat birds and animals. Handle - to touch, grip, hold or manage. With canines the term is used to indicate having an "invisible" handle on the dog. Typically in the US the term handler is not the same as "trainer". One of points alluded to above is the experience of the trainer/handler. Few amateurs are as good as the good pros.
