First Preserve Hunt

Here are some pics of my first preserve hunt/training with my dog. I went with a friend who did all of the shooting while I did the dog handleing. My dog was on a 10' check cord the whole time so I could keep him from chasing birds. He did real well on holding point and is abot 90% steady to flush. ...

Two Training Days

Here are some pics from some of my training days. I am trying to get my dog steady to shot by the opening of quail season. He is doing better but still has a ways to go.http://www.gundogforum.com/album/main.p ... itemId=541

My dog has messed the tip of his ear some how (I can not figure out how). I noticed it the other day as a scab (almost like a carpet burn on a person). Sileny Method Training

Is there a big difference or any difference in The Bill West vs. Rick Smith Vs. Janet's video on Silent Training? Can you learn as much off one of the videos versus going to a training seminar? I have heard great things about seminars and Rick Smith is coming my way in September. I guess a better qu...

I have hit a wall in my force fetching. My dog was doing great up until the point I introduced the ear pinch. Now he looks away from me while force fetch training. I make him pay attention to me and then try and tell him to fetch with the ear pinch. I am afraid I will pinch too hard because he does ...

Flying with dogs

How does flying with a dog effect the dog? I am planning on going to Kansas for some hunting and was wondering if it would be better to drive (13 hour drive) or fly (1.5 hr flight). I have family up there so transportation would not be a problem once I flew in the Kansas City. Any advice?

Great article Snips. I've got one question for Brenda. Is it o.k. to use a frozen quail in the frozen bird part? I have plenty of those to use but do not have any frozen pigeons. Do you recommend using quail or pigeons to shoot or does it matter? Thanks for your time.

I will check into Middle TN GSP. I keep meaning to call someone but have never got around to it. I've taken my dog out to run on Percy Priest quite a bit but since you can not use it on weekends I am looking for somewhere else also. Does MidTN GSP have some type of training days?

Dominance Issues

I have a feeling my dog is having some dominance issues. He stands on my foot every so often which I have heard is a sign he is trying to show dominance. He also has developed selective hearing. He is a year and a couple of months old. My question is how can a go back and correct the dominance issue...

Where was the test located? I have wanted to get into NAVHDA testing. I am a member of the national NAVHDA that lives in Middle TN and I'm not sure if the Middle TN chapter is still around. I will miss the NA test because of age but I may start looking to the next test.

Thanks to everyone for the replys. As far as a chain gang goes, I only have one dog so I can not use that method. The wonder lead I have is the Delmar Smith one I believe. It looks just like the picture minus the rubber stopper. Mine has two two stoppers, but they are leather. I got it as a hand me ...

Wonder Lead

I have a wonder lead but have not had much sucess using it. My dog wants to bite it. How can I prevent this? I tried to let him tire himself out but that hasn't really worked. Maybe I'm using it wrong, I don't know. He doesn't bite the leash when walking. I walk him on a pinch collar which works o.k...
