Blanket of thorn bushes. A yelp then a yelp and no recall. Like the pup was stuck in there. Just a thought.

Re: What Constitutes a Breeding Program?
I was using 0-25% so 99.9-0 was as an example to help identify between the difference. I knew this would happen I should have worded it better. Sorry. All I was trying to say is it is possible to help a breeding using this as a method. And yes two diffrent crosses can have the same problem but like ...

Re: What Constitutes a Breeding Program?
Outcross is when you have a completely line bred or in bred pedigree and stud that dog to a whole different line or inbreed.
Line breeding is grandpa granddaughter grandma grand son etc.
inbreeding is brother. Sister mother son etc closer

Re: What Constitutes a Breeding Program?
@ cjhills. It is possible to stop genetics before its to late. Inbreed coefficients. Example I would stay below 25% if anything keep it at a maximum of 10%. - 15% If your not sure how this works, it is the % of blood that is given to the pups from every ancestor in their pedigree. It can go back 200...

I use tea spoon of cooking oil mixed in with food or stew gravy plenty of protein. Giving puppy food to an adult dog I would be afraid of turning their stomachs.

I think you're doing everything well so far. You might want to teach woah for safety reasons. And use fetch instead of his name for the retrieve.
Other then that great job.
Congrats on your new pup.

Re: What Constitutes a Breeding Program?
Chuckar12 you are right breeding a nice dog to another does work. If a dog has all the right characteristic for. The particular breed then that's good. You can have a litter with the two top dogs in the country and throw sour pups it happeneds. Its all a risk. But breedings that are done with dogs t...

Who else besides me has had it with the hawk population. Its getting nuts. Same thing with the wolves but we can manage them now. I've been out training and flush quail and have had hawks scoop them right up in the air. Sucks to when your running a test or field trial and they already ate all the bi...

That's a pain.
I use the tritronics upland special. Both slide on and off the collar. Try contacting dt if you haven't and see what they say. Or you could just get another collar like tritronics.

Re: What Constitutes a Breeding Program?
I know there are breeders out there that are "line" breeding and have been for years. The good ones are very conscientious of what they produce and very careful of what dogs they bring into their lines for adjustments. I sure wish there were more of them. Steve That in my opinion is of the most imp...

more recent for AA dogs is the last 100 years. Ezzy said it all. The instincts are there but not as strong as they used to be. A dog is going to retrieve its in there nature. But a dog that will naturally retrieve anything you tell him to without the use of ff that is truely natural. Do you get whe...

Just get the two tires for now and move the old to the back. If I were you in another 20,000 replace the old ones two. Every 6000 miles rotate them until then and you will be fine.

Stay and woah are two of the same. I prefer to use woah. But that's up to you. As long as you can tell him stay while on point and he doesn't sit then not a problem. If you don't want him to sit. When you give the stay command and he sits lift his hine up and repeat the command so he will get that y...

First thing is he completely woah broke? What I mean is does he woah on command off the board all the time? If not go back to that and get him doing that superb first. You don't want to be rushing things. If he is go back to launcher. You shouldn't need a board to woah him on. Plant the bird. Have h...

For retrieve definitely important. What if you're out and you shoot a bird that lands in the water how :) are you supposed to get it. Or it lands in the thickest of cover how are you going to find it without ruining a half hour of a hunt. Anything can happen. Plus that's part of the joy of having a ...

Oh yea one other thing. His name
You can call him what ever you want. It doesn't make a difference. Just don't teach him that his name is to come to you. Use the command come, here or whatever your going to use for recalling him instead of his name.

Purina dog chow has been good for me for a long time now. Lower cost and bigger bag. I would feed him a cup twice a day. But after a hard hunt a little more is always good to boost his energy back up. Work on come, heel, and whoa. Once he masters them three you can get him to do anything. Like ghost...

I just would like to point out that gsp's are breed for the land as well as water. They have web feet and their skin is made to withstand coldest of water .They are all good dogs though.
Best thing I can tell you is narrow down your dislikes of each breed and choose from that.
