the "blue" coat is actually a recessive gene just like the long haired gene. Not according to VetGen who will do a genetic marker test for the color genes your dog carries. From their color page, regarding the dilution gene "The D locus is the primary locus associated with diluted pigment, which re...

Interesting note about the differences in Chev and GMC. Back in 1949 the Chev engines had no oil filter and the GM ones did. Otherwise most other parts are interchangeable. Creating an image?

I understand that historically the weimeraner breed did not contain the black color gene. It was selectively bred out. Silver is the dilute of brown and Blue is the dilute of Black. Somewhere the black color gene was introduced in the dogs to get the Blue color. From the AKC standard "A distinctly b...

I will second the 10/22 on the list of bad guns. Unreliable feeding and not too accurate.

I would suggest that if the trainer has a number of dogs he is working and he is seeing that this one dog is having a problem with overheating to the extent he has singled out it is a problem, then the dog has a problem. If the trainer had a problem he would have a kennel full of overheating dogs. A...

ezzy, I understand you are trying to "clean up" a percieved problem, but you are attacking the wrong places IMO. "Do that enough times, train in 90's temperatures, will have a dead dog." Is a definitive statement that is WRONG. Gonehuntin' provides clear cut evidence that the statement is indeed wro...

Whoa has nothing to do with the dog prior to the flushing effort. It's use is to control the dog when the bird takes flight. As I said earlier, if you desire to continue on the path you are on, which is fine by me, you should do your gun conditioning over the food bowl in the yard and only transfer ...

If the dog is found standing after and I did not see the dog moving before the Huns flushed, I will give the benefit to the dog and assume he was standing prior. I use the Gonia without the pea. I like the sound better - it doesn't hurt my ears. It is used very little while hunting, quite a bit more when trialing, but the dogs certainly know what the sound of the whistle means. Much less intrusive to wild game birds than the voice I believe.

I would have thought this would be rather obvious, but it makes no difference how many times a day you feed your dog as far as weight gain is concerned, it is how much you feed your dog. DO NOT GET YOUR DOG OVERWEIGHT. 8 week pups do quite fine on 2x a day. I never switch the dogs off that myself, b...

What is the terrain like? Changes in elevation can give you air movement that will carry scent even on windless days. As the evening sun sets you can catch scent downhill and the early morning warming will carry scent uphill. In the mid-day heat give the dog lounge chair and crack her a beer.
