PC spyware?
Recently I have been having trouble with what I think is spyware.
WINFIXER 2006 is on my PC and I dont know how to get ride of it. Norton has resolved a few things but it wont detect this virus.
I Googled it and it has been around for some time in different versions but I didnt find anything on the 2006 version.
Anyone know about this stuff?

Casper, Have you used a spy ware removal program?
I use spybot search and destroy you can download it free here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html
It removes most of the current spy ware programs out there.

There's also Ad-Aware, a perfect compliment to Spybot.

I'm pretty sure WinFixer is a program that runs to make you think you have a bunch of stuff on your computer that you don't, then makes you purchase a "registered" version to fix everything.

There's instructions on how to fix it. It references WinFixer2005, but I'm sure it's the same process. My dad's computer had it on there for a little while, but he never purchased the "registered" version and I deleted it for him.
By the way, Symantec (Norton) says that only Symantec products are designed to pick it up, so Spybot and Ad-Aware might not even recognize it. Just FYI

Good, then Spybot is up to date. The WinFixer proggy isn't really spyware though (it's more like a program scam) so the folks at Spybot must be expanding their repertoire.

Well I have put this off to long and am going to purchase from the site listed but I am not sure if I should get the package deal or if I all I need is a firewall or just ad-ware. If I should get the package deal which one would be best? There are 2 listed one is basic and the other a professional is one better than the other?grant wrote:I use Ad-Aware also... Works fine for me
The free version of either will take care of your problem
For lavasoft follow the link.
on the home page in the black box on the left go down to "ad-ware personal" click that link it will take you to the page for free personal download.
For spy-bot follow the link I posted above... scroll down to the first "download here" bubble and download your free copy.
After you download either program run the update to get the latest version and then scan your computer.
