New Member Greetings

Post by Last Call's Ranger » Wed May 28, 2025 6:50 am

Hello!

A little about me and Ranger, my 8 month old GSP; I have zero knowledge or exp training a dog for a house, let alone for hunting. BUT! - so it goes. This guy is doing great with forgiving my training mistakes and I am enjoying learning how to handle a puppy. Not rushing anything but I cannot wait for this year's hunting seasons to begin.

The great thing about the first dog is that he takes you so far. Progression from a novice to a moderate knowledge level (opinions vary as to the "moderate") takes place over the life of the dog. Ranger will take you a long way if you keep on working with him consistently throughout his life.

Keep on posting. We have some knowledgeable people here.

Thanks Sharon and Steve - definitely some smart trainers here.

We are loosely following the Silent Command/ HuntSmith DVDs and we will be working with a few friends that have trained their GWPs and labs. He's not exactly champion lines (supposedly sire was) but he hunts my songbirds, chickens, and quail pretty fiercely. Having a hard time keeping him on property currently because hes too focused on hunting the songbirds but im chalking that up to "teenage brain"

Welcome to GDF and best of luck with Ranger.

If you don't have a gps collar for him yet, you'll want one.
