Hello all! My name is Mike, and I live with my wife and two GSPs in Boston, NY. Last year, we moved out to the country, and part of the deal was getting a couple dogs. I like to hunt upland birds, and have done so many times over friends pointers, so we settled on GSPs. We have 5 acres, so Buckeye Wild and Magnolia Mae get plenty of excercise.
I am new to dog training, and have focused on simple commands like come, sit, stay/whoa, and release. Their blood lines are strong, and I have little doubt that they know far more about hunting than I can teach them. These guys are 1 1/2 years old, and I hope its not too late to start hunting them. They haven't been worked over live birds, but will point the wing on the fly rod. They aren't noise sensitive, but haven't yet been exposed to shotguns. I'd like to do this right, and welcome any and all input.
Outside interests beyond dogs and bird hunting, include fly fishing and competitive bbq. I am also a member of the BBQ Brethren ( www.bbq-brethren.com ), another forum, and post under the name The Giggler.
