Just another hello, this time from Idaho

Post by idbirdman » Sun Jun 06, 2010 2:53 pm

My name is Stephen Buffat. I have been breeding, raising, training and hunting with pointers sinse the early 90's. I am a licenced falconer and raptor breeder. I use the dogs in conjunction with the birds. I was born and raised her in Idaho, but have lived in a few other places in the West and Germany. I have been training birds since 1986. I have 4 boys that love to hunt and fish with me. I keep trying to get my wife out with me hunting and she will go on occasion flying the birds. Right now I have two pointers out of Elhew Damascus lines and one out of Honky Tonk lines. I also have a German Wirehair. I am excited to have found such a cool site. Thanks Stephen

Here are a few pictures of some of the birds I have.

This is Chloe a female Gyr/Peregrine falcon. She is a game hawking fool. My favorite thing to hunt with her is Sage grouse and ducks.

This little bird is a male peregrine falcon named Virtigo. Even though he is small, he will catch pheasants and ducks with ease. This picture was at the Utah Sky trials. The sky trials is a compotision that is held every year. He placed 4th. Right now he is about to become a father. The eggs should be hatching today.

This is a picture of a female Gyr/prairie in the back ground and my tiercel peregrine in the forground.

I also have a blog site that I have several other pictures available at http://idaholongwings.blogspot.com

Thanks for looking. Stephen Buffat

It is deffinatly an addiction. Every part of my life revolves around it. Where I live, what I do for a living, who I am married to (JK) don't let my wife hear me say that. Thanks Stephen

I was thinking about getting into Falconry...I have seen some seminars, and helped with some smaller birds like Kestrels, and Redtails. I have plenty of time and space as well as knowhow...I was just wondering how you like doing it, and how you got started, as well as some info about Falconry with dogs. Any info would be helpful...I am interested in Falconry with my German Wirehaireds

Welcome to GDF!!! Love your Avatar....that's another Gyr X, right? I LOVE the GYRS :)))) Rebecca OConnor is a dear friend of mine as well. She and Anakin, her Cassini/Peregrine X first hunted ducks together over a Brit pup I bred. Spent the best day of my life huntin ducks with her and Dave Jamieson in Gerlach, NV back in 2006...where I got to watch those gorgeous Gyrs in action. :D

I have wanted to be a falconer for as long as I can remember. Even put in for my apprentice license before moving to PA but my Brits take WAAAY more time then I could afford for a bird. I'll live vicariously through your adventures now here on GDF.....WELCOME!!!!
