Hello everyone,

I've been lurking for the past few days and thought I should introduce myself. Im 22 years old, getting ready to move back to Virginia from Tennessee for law school and will have my first hunting dog (GSP) in less than two weeks. AS you might have guessed, I need all the help I can get when it comes to training. So anyway, hello and I look forward to learning from everyone.

Welcome Jordan. I registered on this forum back in May of 2004, shortly after I completed my first year of law school. I got married and picked up my first dog, a vizsla pup, that following June. Things will always be busy, but spending time with your dog in the field will definately be a stress reliever from all the reading and studying you'll have to do.

Having the dog throw toys in your lap every ten minutes while you study for the bar, however...

Yea I'm a little anxious about balancing the whole law school thing with hunting/dog training. Good to hear that I won't be the first.

Jordan,

Remember dog training can be as time consuming as you want to make it. Many real good dogs have practically no formal training to the other extreme as the trial dogs and hunt test dogs. You basically get back what you put in but many many people aren't interested in the games we play so they are perfectly content with their dogs that are great pets and will go point a few birds in the fall. Its all up to you and what you want. If you dont have time to create the worlds greatest dog, all is not loss.

All I'm saying is do what you can or what you want and still be able to get the necessary things done in your life.

Ezzy is right most dog training only takes 5 minutes at the start and usually goes alot earier if u do lots of little practices than 1 big practise during the day.

Its a good break from homework too.
