Hi!
Hi!
So, I'm new here! I joined yesterday for a specific reason and I couldn't believe the response I got from my post! Thank you for being so gracious to someone that hadn't even introduced themselves yet!
My name is Robin...I live in Michigan and I am an Obedience Instructor and Behaviorist. This is what I do! Dogs. It's my only occupation and my passion.
I train all levels of dogs, whether the dog is learning to be a well-behaved member of the family or heading into some working/competitive area....I also train therapy dogs, disaster dogs, agility, and so on.
I work with issues, as well. Dog/human aggression, dog/dog aggression, fear and dominance. And yeah, I've been bit more times than any human should be bit!
I have 2 Golden Retrievers - Molly and Reason. Molly is 3 years old and an obedience girl that unfortunately had to retire early, and Reason is 2....working on his titles and also a certified therapy/disaster dog.
I'm hoping to stick around and get to know you....and maybe even further my education!
I guess pictures are allowed???
This is me, with 2 of my students - both Goldens.
And this is Molly & Reason....
Nice to meet all of you![/url]

GSP's are the only way to go when you decide to get one.

Welcome Robin. I had 2 Goldens love them both. The last one I had love to point, so I decided to get a setter and found that the Gordons have a very similar personality. Have you ever let your dogs chase birds, you may find it very enjoyable to watch become birdy.

llewgor....funny you should ask that!
My dogs LOVE birds! Although I don't hunt, I still want my dogs to be able to go with their instinct.....and this is going to sound weird but....
When they were puppies (and I've done this with all my Goldens) they start out with stuffed ducks. They are literally all over the house! This teaches them A: not to tear the life out of something and B: it teaches them to hold gently the way a retriever is suppose to...because at early ages, the training bumpers are usually too much for their teeth and gums. They can cause pain and if given to the pup too early, it actually backfires on you and makes the dog NOT want to carry!
Anyway.....there are still stuffed ducks all over my house. And Reason, my 2 year old male, thinks it's a big party to show up at the back door with a new retrieve! The last time he retrieved something for me, he brought me a young bunny....still squirming in his mouth......I praised him like crazy, asked him to drop and the bunny took off like a bat out of heck!
Reason as a 7 week old pup...

Big Steve,
I've always found the other end of the dog to be the most important.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Can't argue with that.
