First time bird dog owner

Good morning all. We have a 3mo old Braque Francais and he is our first bird dog. Our first dog in 20 years actually.
We’ve got some books and videos to help and are currently just working on come and house training. House training going well so long as we take him out regularly and ‘come’ is going ok though almost any distraction will overrule it.
We do regular field exploration walks behind the house and he loves sniffing around the entire way.
We live on the Md shore so no real bird population close to us. Hope is to do some preserves this fall and then head to Pa for state released pheasants on public land.
