I have a golden retriever but he can't go on hunting because he just had his surgery this week :(
what would you consider? I'm also thinking of getting a new hunting dog like American Foxhound. I've heard they are best for hunting.

.................................................................

See Ray's question above.
If one wants to hunt, the dog one chooses depends on what they are planning to hunt. The foxhound is a tracker. Are you planning to hunt fox, coyote .....?
Your retriever will recover in 2 months and be able to be trained to hunt again. The retriever is for retrieving shot ducks, or for finding and retrieving birds like quail, pheasant, woodcock, or grouse.

I'd like to focus on my dog's healing first.

You said, " I'm also thinking of getting a new hunting dog like American Foxhound."
That was the reason for my post.
