I haven't ever heard that trials don't allow mares, at least not in our area. There is nothing wrong with mares, unless you don't like a little attitude once in a while! I ride mares and prefer them over geldings. The only problem you may have is putting a show horse in a trialing situation, unless they have been trail ridden, but it will really depend on the horses temperament.

There's nothing that says you can't ride mares at field trials, it is stallions/studs their not fond of people riding @ trials. I know a few people that ride stallions and you don't even know it though. I used to even had people tell me he wasn't a stud. haha said "look between the back legs". But YES YOU CAN RIDE MARES.

powerpoint...congrats and it sure sounds like you are putting your heart and soul into this trialing and looking for top notch dogs. Along with that comes with getting together with top notch people...you have found a couple good ones. What does Nathan have available for horses...any for sale now? Were you able to see any while you were there? He has trained a few for some guys up here in the north and I know they are very pleased.

Powerpoint -

In horse, mares are the dominant ones. That can be a blessing or a curse, depending on the horse. Everybody talks about the mares that get flaky once a month when they come in season. Obviously mares in season and stalliions do not mix well in a gallery setting.

I have however, seen a couple of mares that were absolutely "blood and guts" type horses that would do anything, go anywhere and had absolutely no quit in them. When the came in season, they didn't get flaky, screwy or meam...they just got tougher. Before I bought my own horse, I rented them at trials. One wrangler had a mare of that description. She had an iron mouth and you were arm weary at the end of the day, but she woould do anything I asked her to do, including running down a dog and I felt safe on her back which for me is huge, considering I was, and still am a very poor rider. I asked for her...every time.

Good luck and have fun.
