Now she needs a name

She's registered Prides Shining Gold. Her previous owner (who has owned her on and off since she was 2) calls her Shiner. We're not wild about the name and are looking for suggestions.

She's 11 yrs old, all black...no markings at all. She's been with a trainer for a little over a month and he's already roading dogs off of her. I think she's going to be a keeper, so we need a name.

Any ideas?

I'm no help since one of my all time favorite beers is Shiner Bock - I love the name Shiner.

I prolly would have named her Black Gold though....Texas Tea.

Had a good friend who named her all black horse Necromancer - it means black wizard. She called him Wiz.

She's cute. Looks like you spend the time to keep her brushed and pretty. Her clothes match and compliment her coloring.

I'd go with Barbie :D

Karen -

There's Goldie, but that is too easy.

How about Ebony or Eb for short. Ebony Masterpiece is probably back in that horse's pedigree.

I would not be surprised if Pride of Midnight or Go Boy's Shadow isn't in there also so Midnight or Shadow might make a nice 2 syllable name.

Delight of Pride is probably in the pedigree too, so Dee would work.

No idea about a better name (I kinda like Shiner too). Maybe you could get her a brand like that thing Prince had for a name and call her " The horse formerly known as Shiner".

Just kidding - She sounds and looks like a real nice horse.

How about Shimmer sounds kind of like shiner (if she knows her name) but does not sound like a black eye. (Even though my relatives work at shiner)

Funny you say that! I had to rename a horse because where I was boarding, there was no way I could board "Larry" because the woman had a boss named Larry and she couldn't stand him. So, I named him "Prince, the horse formally known as Larry"! :D

How bout "Ebby"?

Come on!!!! That's the best name yet and ill bet you'll never run into another horse at any trial with that name. Beautiful.

Well, SHY went from HIS horse to MY horse pretty darned fast. Trainer did a great job with her, but couldn't work outside all winter with all the snow & ice we got (he has a nice indoor ring). So now we get her field trial broke. She's calming down a little bit with each trial, and I swear this mare has absolutely no spook in her at all. She's been absolutely rock solid with EVERYTHING at trials. She's barn/buddy sour, and a bit of a spoiled brat, but I think I have her number now (with the help of a crop and spurs), and everything is improving with each trial.

And boy is she smooth! I don't think she'll be ready to handle off of for another season or 2, but I do think she'll get there! Wet saddle blankets now.

Shy was moved on to trail horse and brood mare (at someone else's house) in late September, 2014. She was not happy as a field trial horse, so she's been replaced by Encore & Scout.

Encore is a coming 4 yr old. He's doing GREAT!

Scout will be 5 in June. He's my husband's horse and came from a pointer/setter guy. He's going to spend the summer with Jeanette Tracy learning the scouting ropes with Dillon. He should come home a true dog horse when they're done with him. Encore will probably do the same NEXT summer.
