Ducks

Post by campgsp » Sat May 18, 2013 10:38 pm

Anyone know anything about keeping ducks?

I just got a good deal on some teenage ducks at a buck a piece so I'm going to grab some and half with a friend. They will be kept at her place but we are lost as to a pen.
I usually only have a couple ducks a month for training a leave them in a pen in my garage. But we plan on getting 40 or more of them for the summer.

I was thinking putting wire fence around with some sort of shelter under it.

Any advice is appreciated.

Make sure that if you live near any sort of woods, you make the cage fox proof or raccoon proof. I just lost 5 breeder chukars and some pigeons to a raccoon getting into my pen. He's been back since then but hasn't had luck since i put wire in the ground and dog chain link all around the pens.

Yes, that is what we did. Wire a foot deep along the bottom and sides and also put plywood over the wire just for added security. It will rot but don't plan to keep them for the winter. We built it 18' x 18' with a regular old kennel for the above ground with another section on top. Put two kid pools in there and they seem to be doing ok.
I forgot I posted this, thanks for the reply.
