Pecking

Post by Jidano3 » Thu Apr 30, 2015 4:25 pm

Found one of my squeakers with a bloody head and alone in the corner of my loft. I have only had birds for a year or so and never had this happen. Whats going on? My goodness, between the dog snatching them and now this pigeon bullying....lol....what next?

Pigeons are territorial and without a doubt you have a cock that felt threatened and tried to drive the youngster away. Happens very often if they are crowded but occasionally it is just a cock that wants to be boss.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

I have a cock in a loft all to their own. It has pecked his own chicks to death twice this year. The hen is a great mother. She starts new eggs 15 days after hatch of the last birds. Do pigeons mate for life? Can I just shoot the cock and let her find a new mate.

They do mate for life but you can re-mate them so go ahead and shoot the cock.
