Gsp Females

Post by cjhills » Fri Sep 06, 2024 9:32 am

I am thinking of selling my last two GSP females, since I have a hard time walking the miles they need. Both are intact. both are well bred, talented dogs from Master parents. Crate trained and House broke. Six and four years old. Point and retrieve, very little training or hunting experience. I am technologically challenge, so I can't post photos and pedigrees. I will e-mail or text.
PM if interested. More interested in good homes than money..........Cj

So sorry. When gsp's have been such a part of ones life, that's a tough one. I still have 3 spread across a wide range. At 68 I've wondered whether any new pups should be in my future.

I agree with Greg, and extend regrets to cjhills. You are clearly doing the right thin for your dogs. Nevertheless when you get through this, worth noting that there are other breeds and other dog hobbies which may work wonderfully in your life. Hard-core lifetime bird-dog people tend to think that their breed is the only breed and that their dog hobby is the only dog hobby. It is simply not true.

For example, I know a number of people strongly involved in obedience competition who simply went to a smaller dog breed as they got older. For that matter, most of us if we are sensible adjust to the individual qualities of the dog and continue to compete (if we are competitive) at what the dog is good at. My original wirehair was a nationally ranked Field Champion and Master Hunter. My current wire is a fun guy to hunt with, but not competitive, so while we do hunt, we went into conformation and competition obedience (no breed split in wirehairs) and he is a show Champion and advanced-level nationally-ranked obedience competitor (Utility Dog is the title.)

There was a lot more to dogs than a specific breed or a specific sport. CJHills is doing right by the dogs he has now. but I suspect that living without a dog would not make any of us happy. Certainly not me, and probably not him. I never want to live without a dog. And it is fun to learn new things.

Interesting post by Steveo. Maybe people are misinterpreting this a little. My dogs have a very nice life and I still take them in the field every day. That has been a huge factor in making it to 86 years old in relatively good health. But, you can't beat time. I can't walk 10 miles a day on the prairies or the grouse woods. my walking speed has dropped dramatically. I just feel two very good dogs are being wasted.
We do have 2 miniature Daschundts which are pure joy. Got a new puppy last year.
I also you run the dogs on a Etryke which is great fun. Have to be careful not to run over the little dogs. who like to cross in front of the Tryke. So I am not dogless by any means. It is still good. I would not change much. Maybe take better care of myself when I was younger.
Making sure they have a good place when they can't go with me is what this is about.
Thanks for the good times......................Cj

Dachshunds are a surprisingly fun little breed. Interestingly, they come in three flavors-- smooth, long-haired and wire haired-- and in two sizes, regular and miniature. Not my breed, but what the heck? The truth is the real dog guys-- and I qualify--- like all dogs. Speaking broadly... And I have often thought when my bird dog pinned a bird in stiff thorns or brambles and I had to go in and flush it myself, that it would be great to have a little wirehaired Dachshund to help me out.

You might also consider calling the GSP Club in MN and let them know about your dogs. I'm sure they have members that would really be interested in your dogs and are relatively local. I've been told they are a very active club.
