New chainsaw

I'm in the market for a new saw and have been looking at dolmar brand. Anyone have experience with them?

I don't have experience with a Dolmar but I do have alot of experience in viticulture and growing avocados. You will only and I mean only find a Stihl on any of the farms or wineries in this area. They may cost a bit more but they are the only thing I could give to the guys that would not comeback trashed.

Only Stihl here. Have his and hers chainsaws and a brushcutter/weedtrimmer by them that have seen a good bit of use.

I bought a 455 husky a couple of years ago and have no complaints. Ive got a stihl limb saw i wouldnt trade for any other, 2 hurricanes and 10 years later still runs like new.

I use my Dad's Stihl all the time, it is great. I've got an old McCulloch, ProMac 610, if you can get it started without dying of a heart attack it runs great and will take a beating, it is heavier than the Stihl though, I prefer running the Stihl.

I've heard good things about Dolmar, but don't have first hand experience with them. I've used Husqvarna saws, but I wasn't impressed with the power. They are good saws, but for around the same price I could get a more powerful saw the last time I bought a chainsaw. I currently own a Stihl Farm Boss and while it is very dependable I wish I would have gotten a bigger model. I cut a fair amount of wood for both home and the cottage and the Farm Boss doesn't work as well as my Father's Stihl, which is the MS 311.

I have a Stihl and a Husqvarna and have experience with Poulan, Echo, John Deere, McCullough and some other brand I can't recall at this time. Can't say Stihl is better than Husky, but IMO it is pointless to look at any other chainsaw.

I do have experience with Dolmar, concrete saws, They suck.
I have Stihl very tough saw and very dependable. Also many service them and have chains and bars for them on the shelves.

The old Huskavarna were great work saws as they were faster than the stihl. At least what I had.

Good saws, if you have a Dremel Tool they make a bit that is great for sharpening blades.

I know nothing about chainsaws except that you should wear a helmet when using one. A friend's saw hit a hard spot and the chainsaw bounced up and opened up his forehead. Be safe.

Stihl is overpriced and people just fall for the name as seen above. If you want a pro saw, Stihl is fine, as are any of the good companies. If you're looking for an affordable saw for farm/home use, the Dolmar ps420 is far and above better than what you get from Husky/Stihl etc for the same price. It's just a different class of saw altogether, and more similar to what you get in a Stihl Ms260 but for almost half the price. At the higher end, they level out a bit, but Dolmar is top notch through and through.

As a firefighter, when you are on a roof, in the dark, with a 900 degree fire beneath you and you have to vent a roof fast, and get down before you fall through, you have no time for an unreliable saw. Every Stihl saw we have are temperamental, and I refuse use one. I use one of our Cutter's Edge (made by Jonsered-owned my Husqvarna). Starts on the 2nd-3rd pull, and they run strong.

My personal saws are Jonsered, Husky xp's and yes, I do own a Stihl. I cut 5-6 cord of wood a year, with the Husky (28in bar) and my Jonsered (20in bar). I never use the Stihl. Just my opinion.

Dolmar are great saws, but finding a dealerclose to you can be tricky.

I save money with a Sthil has been my experience.I will say the service varies from dealer to dealer.

Stihl all the way. I own a MS 201T, MS 180 C-B, 029, MS 360, and MS 660. I will put them up against any thing any time. My 029 is the oldest, I have no idea how much hundreds of hours are on it and it starts right up with 2-3 pulls every time. I did change the sprocket and bar to run a 3/8 chain several years ago, still has plenty of power to pull the more aggressive chain. Every one that has used it has been amazed at how good it cuts, I B.S. them a tell them that it is a special hot rod saw, when it is just a different chain then what they are use to. I also run stihl weed eater, blower, and edger. Only not stihl is the lawn mower....SCAG
