I just left that field after 6 yrs... Will never do it again. Also don't feel the same way (that its worth it). Where I worked it was already too late - nothing you did made a difference. You just managed them until they were old enough to be kicked back out into society (to then go back into the system via jail).mnaj_springer wrote:I know the life! Cass, your experience is unfortunate. And there are some cases like that, but we also see a lot of successful kids here, hence it being worth it.

I am a special ed teacher in a classroom at Boys and Girls Town. I work with emotionally disturbed teens. It is too late for many, and maybe most, but occasionally there is one that could turn around IF therapist, guardian, parent or foster parent, and teacher all do their jobs right. That's why I'm still there. And spent 22 years with Uncle Sam as a combat engineer (sapper).CDN_Cocker wrote:I just left that field after 6 yrs... Will never do it again. I used to work at a fab shop that was the local 538 pipe fitters union. I wasn't on the union side but would have been if given the chance they had GREAT benefits and when it shut down they walked out the gate with a job the next day.
