I am 35 and live in Waterford which is about 20 miles South of Milwaukee.

I actually grew up in Burlington. Left town for the greener pastures of the Army and when I returned Waterford was the destination because they have the best schools in the area.

I purchased a black lab pup but can't pick him up for another grueling two weeks.

Our CH trial is coming up in April at Pine Island around Portage. Let me know if I can answer any questions or offer directions.

I went to college at Marquette and will be moving back to Milwaukee in June. Looking forward to hunting WI again, this time with a dog. Anyone wants company on a hunt, my policy is "have dog, will travel"

Not sure if I am shooting myself in the foot for saying this but my dog is coming from a private seller (no kennel). I am hoping I can pick him up next Sunday.

I know once he gets home I will have a ton of questions and will probably ask some of you local guys to meet up and offer some advice also.

Do the Wisconsin guys ever have a get together besides for trials or other competitions? Something more informal and more of a friendly meet and greet?

When I move I'll definitely be looking for folks to train with, that won't be until June though.

There are a lot of training "groups" around WI, from NAVHDA to waterfowl groups to pointing dog groups. Let me know if I can help point you in the right direction. Our club does not hold "training days" (like the NAVHDA group does) but many of us get together and run/train dogs.

Once I get this dog situation figured out and have one I will be looking for some groups.

A waterfowl group sounds right up my alley. My dog is gonna be solely used for waterfowl and pheasant.

Nate, after you get your pup and have him well socialized - and right around 6 months or so, give Tom a call at Dale Creek. He is just west of Waterford in Honey Creek. Schedule an evaluation with him. He is a great resource for training and help. http://www.dalecreekgundogs.com/index.html Then you can decide which way to progress with your training.

Use to come up there grouse hunting every year Rod. Have a friend who lives in St. Germain. How were the bird numbers this year?

Are you coming up this weekend? Are you out of the snow? We have that sloppy schmitt all over the place, here! Sure put a damper on my season!

I was going to pm you and see if we could meet this weekend. Now they're saying rain so I won't come up if it rains. My back went out this week and I'm in pretty tough shape right now. Did we get even ONE full weekend without rain in Oct or Nov.? I feel like a muskrat!

Since the following is Wisconsin related, I thought to throw it in this thread. The DNR is still deciding about the master plan of Rainbow Springs in Mukwonago WI. There is interest from retriever and pointer circles to push for a class II training grounds. The DNR is still taking on usage requests from the public, but not for long, with what to have done to this property. Please take the time this month to send an email to the DNR official listed on the right hand side of the following link:

http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/Lands/MasterPla ... rnKettles/

With your support, Southeast Wisconsin can have a great location for foot handling trials and tests that will ease the demands on two properties we already utilize very often.

Just saw this. I'm in the Green Bay area. Looks like I'm taking the next couple weekend off of bird hunting to let the gun deer hunters have some fun. Dogs are not going to be happy with me.

Hello, I am looking to buy a new 12 gauge semi-auto for next season. I am looking to use it for waterfowl and upland so looking for light weight and probably waterfowl camo. 1. Any recommendations? Looking to spend $500 to $1,000. 2. I am looking at both new and used. Does anyone know of a good gun store/pawn shop that usually carries a good selection in the South East Wisconsin area?

-Thanks, WISCO

Anyone have any good public places to training and run and train my GSP near the Milwaukee area. Southern Milwaukee perferably. I like to take my GSP to places with either wood cover or some fields. I just like to take her to new places when ever I can but being new to the area I dont know of many places yet.
Thanks !

Richard Bong State Rec. Area - down in Kenosha County http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/name/richardbong/
Ottawa in the Southern Kettle Moraine (south of Dousman off hwy 67) http://dnr.wi.gov/topic/parks/name/kms/
The Kettle Moraine NAVHDA Chapter used to lease land up around Lomira/Campbellsport - Google them
Build some relationships (pay for some birds/training) with a few trainers in the area - Tom at Dale Creek Gundogs, Jeff at Lumpy's Kennels, etc...

Originally from Minneapolis suburbs but have lived in Hudson WI for 12 years. Have a 3-1/2 yr old GSP and have had a blast hunting pheasants even when there aren't any rooster around we still enjoy a beautiful point on Hens. I don't know enough about grouse hunting and I think I just need to give it up with him in the woods. He ranges pretty far and I hear the beating of wings through the trees a long way off. If someone tries to get a Wisconsin gathering together, I would be up for it.
