dogs getting under the porch

Post by mountaindogs » Mon Jul 08, 2013 9:06 am

The dogs are getting under the porch. I have had this porch about 8 years and until recently my dogs had only wanted to be ON it. But the lab figured out digging under it is fun and he is coming in filthy and leaving huge yawning holes under it. Also the GSP puppy has followed him in and is learning the skills  I hate lattice. Any other ideas for cheaply skirting this or at least keeping the mud out. If it was higher I'd love to just put 2" gravel under it but getting it down there would be a chore!

Maybe use the ecollar and a verbal "NO DIG!"?

If your front porch collapses and more than two dogs are killed, 'you might be a redneck'. :D

I am not loving Aunt Bea's pickles - they taste like kerosene.

Pave it, put chain-link around it and call it your kennel.

I had my two dogs tunnel out under a fence a few months back. I put 12" stepstones along the fence.

We live right at the edge of a major lava flow. When my dogs started digging under their doghouse and the family deck, I filled in the holes and around the deck with 20-30 lbs lava rocks. They don't dig anymore. A big lab however may just find those rocks a challenge.

Sounds like the dogs are just tryin to get out of the heat. Maybe put some pavers up under the porch and at the entrance to make it clean and easy for them to get in there to cool down.

Go to TSC or yer local farm supply store, by a fencer an e fencer and run the wire along the bottom of the thing. It will keep them out.
