A though just occurred to me. If your bow hunting for bear, do you still need a firearm? Is it even legal anywhere?
I pity the man that has never been loved by a dog!

bear spray or 14" 870 knockoffs are the typical anti-grizz tools around here while bow hunting. though with a bow you have one advantage, no dinner bell.

My boss' son shot a mule deer a couple of weeks ago and while he was waiting for help to drag it out, a grizzly walked out to the cut line walked over to the kill and started eating it. Good thing the kid was not head down gutting the deer when the bear stepped out.

I would be more worried about bears around camp than while out hunting, I have hunted bear country most of my life and I have walked up maybe 5 and that was while I was bear hunting.

We shot lots over bait mostly with bow, but we always tracked with a 12 gauge.
