a proud Canadian here
My ggggrandfather from Germany joined up with the British Army , as a mercenary in 1778 , to fight in the American Revolution ; they were called Hessians. As the war ended , he headed north to Montreal with many other Loyalists. They eventually made their way to Prince Edward County where they received land on South Bay - the First Nations People got them through their first winter. That land is still in a Dainard name.
So we were Canadians long ago , and are in our 8th generation here in Canada - 8 generations of hunters , fishermen... 6 generations of gun dog owners.
Yes I'm proud to be a Canadian.
PS I'm sorry we fought for the British , but we were mercenaries and they paid more.

I have a lot of Canadian patients.
This time of year, I always wish them a "Happy Canada Day".................... And then ask them if they have a "4th of July" ---------
They usually answer, "No we have Canada Day"............................ So I reply, "Does that mean that if I look at a Canadian calendar that it says, "July 1, 2, 3 and 5 ? and there is no 4th ?
Always good for a chuckle.

Just like many building do not have a 13th floor, lots of Canadians do not have a 4th of July since it's too American.
Irrational fear is a powerful thing

I said NOTHING about a 4th of july celebration.
I ask my Canadian patients if they have a "4th of July" -- and the majority of them say, "No, we have a july 1 (Canada Day0 celebration.

Ah, it was a bad joke(seems to happen regularly for me), leveraging, the way some Canadians call things bad, by adding American to it. EG American health care, American Beer, American cheese stuff like that.

How about because the two holidays are not remotely the same?
The 4th of July (Independence Day) celebrates when the US declared its independence from Great Britain.
July 1st (Canada Day) celebrates Confederation, when Canada became a country.

Thank you
This year we were 147 years old - only 3 provinces in 1867.
You were 238 years old this year I believe .
People forget how young Canada really is... Mohawk word for " settlement".
