Where I work I share a workstation with a young fellow who listens to headbanger music. I work with a younger gal who listens to cookie cutter modern country. I like neither. I'm the first person of our three-person crew who gets here in the morning so I get first crack at the radio. More often than not I listen to classical music, but when they play that god-awful opera screeching, I'll turn to classic rock or classic country. That said, I have really come to appreciate the overtures to opera. In particular I marvel at the genius of Rossini and Verdi (with some Mozart, Borodin, and Gounod thrown in for good measure. It amazes me the beautiful, intricate and inspiring music that came out of the mind of these (actually all the great) composers.

50 years from now Garcia will be taught in the finest music schools in the world!

....I know nothing of opera but I am a big music fan. I find bad music to be painful.

I was listening to our local college station while driving . A nice blend of classic, pop. Just nice listening. And with no notice, i was listening to a German opera. That will get your attention.

I think that the tipping point for opera is watching one and reading the subtitles. If that doesn't get you, it wasn't meant to be.

I love Opera. Also old-school country (and bluegrass & old time).

Jerry Garia was a genius.

The least I can say is Hank III and I share some country heroes, including his granddaddy. I'm really missing The Hag.

Yeah..he's an "interesting" guy for sure but buried in his catalog of music there are a few gems in the vein of old school country akin to Sr..not a huge fan of country myself but some of the old timey stuff is pretty cool.

Wagner. The manliest overtures in opera. You'll be amazed at how many motifs you recognize. When I went off to music school and my first serious music education, I was amazed at how many musical icons I'd heard - as cartoon soundtracks.
