Movie review. "Call of the Wild"

If you're familiar with the Jack London book, Call of the Wild, you'll be interested to know that there is a movie with Harrison Ford and CGI dogs out now by the same name. I saw it this weekend.

Actually it is a pretty good movie, which mostly followed the book. There were a very few decidedly unrealistic brief scenes -- Buck tries to save a little bunny from the dog pack (honest!) -- but it probably appeals to the kids more than seeing the hero shred the rabbit. The pack going after the rabbit did set up an important scene in the book, so it was important to have it there. In general, it was a worthwhile movie, though the CGI did make the Wirehair look more like a St. Bernard ( ). Harrison Ford was good, especially as he was acting against an empty screen in real life with the CGI inserted later. Seemed like a long movie, but that's not bad. Buck had a lot of different "careers" and there was a good deal of character development, as well as action. Generally recommended. Worth seeing.
