I suspect GSP popularity hit a spike when one won at Westminster a few years ago. You always hope such a win doesn't ruin the hunting ability as it becomes a pet and not a hunter. I didn't realize poodles were as popular (even though I own one, an excellent hunter BTW), but I suppose all those doodles now running around needed some starter seed

I had a neighbor across the street who had a Weimaraner, and he was quite surprised when I told him that some people used Weimers as bird dogs. He had no idea they could hunt. I'm sure the same could be said of many pet shorthair owners, and considering that quite a few of them haven't seen a bird in many generations, they are probably right.
