Leatherworking Question
All,
I want to fasten perfectly good brass tags from old collars onto perfectly good new collars.
The collars are presently riveted on and that seems to be a logical way to fasten them onto the new collars.
My question is: what kind of tool is needed, what kind of rivets and where would I find them?
Best,

Greg,
You could use crush rivits to attach them. They could eb found at any tack shop or, you could order them from Dresslers.
THere is also threaded rivits, called Chicago screws, you could use, might want to put a drop of locktite on them though. Also more easily found at tack shops.
I have used both methods, if you plan to keep changing tags to new collars you are better off with the latter.

I have used regular pop-rivets. Push through from the underside of the collar and add a washer over the top of the nameplate if the rivet is smaller than the hole in the name tag. Use the pop rivet tool to set the rivet. Not to hard to remove if you want to save the tag. Also, use aluminum so they won't rust.

Should I use the crush rivets, what is the best tool to crush them with?

A hammer and an anvil. Doesn't take a big hammer or a hard hit.Greg Jennings wrote:Phil,QCBirddogs wrote:Greg,
