Why people don't vote in a poll.

Post by BigShooter » Tue Apr 22, 2008 11:24 am

There's a GunDog Forum breed ownership poll.

As of about noon today there were 392 views and 38 votes. Less than 10 percent of viewers voted. Voting requires a lot of effort ... at least two clicks!

Obviously you can cast an anonymous vote without posting anything.

I would, but you spelled the name of my dog's breed wrong. :)

Couldn't decide which of my breeds to include.
If you think I'm wrong, you might be right.

What's an "s" here or there?

Guess if you really wanted to get picky you'd have to cast a vote for "other".

I'll fix it as soon as I find out how.

Rick,

Can you vote once and then go back a second time and vote for the other breed?

You only get one vote.

I went ahead and voted in your poll. But, to be honest, I
rarely visit that section of the forum. Sorry.

I have multiple breeds and don't think it's fair to vote for a single breed.

I run into this all the time. None of the poll options seem right, so I don't vote, but rather post in the thread.

I think there maybe something hooky in the "Views" number. I have posted late at night when few were on board, only to have 300 views and 1 response come morning.

I have always suspected it had to do with advertising.

I have to agree about the poll area not being a place visited frequently. Although that seems odd then that it had that many visitors counted. Would be better for multiple dog owners to be able select multiple breeds. But if you're asking for a favorite, than obviously that's just one.

Neil,

The numbers are accurate as far as I can tell. The computor counts them.

I'll have to ask Grant if there's a way to set up a poll to do multiple votes.

I knew there were lots of owners of two or more breeds. I suppose I could've had categories for "two or more pointer breeds", " two or more flusher breeds" or "two or more breeds, at least one flusher and one pointer".

It'd be better though, to be able to cast a vote for each breed you own.

Could be web crawlers, members, guests etc., but nothing to do with advertising. I don't charge for impressions or clicks like google...

I find the poll section pretty interesting so I check it regularly. I too would like to be able to check more than one answer.

Grant hasn't let me know how to allow more than one vote so I suggest voting for the breed of your most recent aquisition.

We're up to approximately 672 views with 65 votes. The 10% vote to views ratio is holding pathetically steady.

I bet most people have looked at it more than once though so that's not actually 672 separate people looking. If each voter has looked 10 times then that would be everyone who looked voting (not saying that happened but it could have).

Each time someone checks back into the thread, the "views" increase. So you could have a lot of repeat lookers around.

As for votes, there's a lot of folks who have more than one breed (as stated) so that may be a reason for the low totals. But as far as polls go, 60+ votes is pretty good around here.

Must be that drive to go for the record.

Seriously though, how many members does the Forum have now?

P.S. I see at the bottom of the index page it's 2892 registered users of which we've had a little over 60 votes in the poll.

I didn't vote in it. I only have Setters now but I've had Springers, Labs, GSP's and E. Pointer's. None are what I would call a favorite, I like all dogs.

Don,

The poll question is what gun dog breed do you currently own not which one is your favorite. I've owned the following breeds: Lab, Britt, English Setter and currently own GSP.

Now, you can go back and vote. :)

With the new software you're supposed to be able to place more than one vote in a poll. Will someone who owns two different breeds and hasn't voted yet give it a try and let us know what happens?
