Here's a good read http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/russianspaniel.htm

Nice pic of one - very long ears though. I can see it'll be a grooming nightmare in some of the thickets around here.....

quote "Russian Spaniel is the youngest breed among Russian gun dogs. It is included in the larger group of spaniel breeds, and is originated mostly from English cocker spaniels and English Springer spaniels" quote

Hey - here's a thought: I have an English Springer Spaniel already. I get me an English cocker spaniel. Mate the two & can get me a Russian Spaniel .... Especially since I can see Russia from my doorstep.... !

Sorry, Sorry, tongue in cheek.... I like Palin - I even voted for her...... :)

You've sussed it right there. The Kennel Club (UK) nor FCI recognize the "Russian spaniel" as a breed, and unless FCI has recently relented, both have refused recognition, seeing it as a springer x cocker cross. In the UK, that's called a sprocker. Like a dropper for pointing dogs. A working mix, but a mix nonetheless so it begs the question why? As with the difference between Caribou Barbie's hockey mom and a pitbull, it's all in the presentation...
