Good luck Ross and Vagas
Two of our regulars on the board, Ross and Vagas, have charges that will be running in the Georgia Shooting Dog Championship over the next week. This is one of the biggest draws of the season and to win it would really be saying something. Vagas has his Champion out of Fibber McGee running, Nella's Running Tab. Ross has two in it, Caladen Elhew Sarah and her son, Caladen Struttin Gentleman, who is a son of Ch. Strut. Good luck fellas!

Re: Good luck Ross and Vagas
Thank you for the kind words. I'll make a deal with Ross, you can have this one as long as I win the National and the futurity next month. However, I could use some of those 890 points towards Dog of the Year and the Invitational next year. Good luck to you Ross.

89 dogs were drawn for the Championship!! Holy cow!! Thanks Clarence and good luck to everyone running.
BTW, Caladen's Struttin Gentleman is owned by GDF's very own Mtlee.
Both Sarah and Gent will be handled by the accomplished veteran handler, John Ray Kimbrell.

Ross and Vagas -
I took a gander at the running order. There is certainly a star studded entry there. I have seen quite a number of those dogs in competition and have been braced with a couple when run by their amateur handlers. There are some truly outstanding dogs entered.
You boys have your hands full, but on any given day... you know how that one goes.
Again best of luck and I hope the dogs do you proud.

I would like to watch a big time trial like this,
what town is it held in
can anyone go watch
do you need to be on a horse to watch ( I have horses ) I would rather just watch on foot if that is possible

The trail is at Di-Lane plantation (a state run grounds) in Waynesboro Ga. Yes you can attend. No you won't be ablebobman wrote:I would like to watch a big time trial like this,

to keep up on foot. You will either hope for a seat on the dog wagon or ride a horse. Which is the best way to see
the show there are times the wagon has to take a short cut. for more details check here (http://fieldtrialpointers.net/drawings.html) and click on Georiga shooting dog championship and derby classic. You will enjoy.

Vagas,Good luck to you Ross.
I posted just after you and missed yours. Thank you and best of luck!!
Clarence,
Did you notice on the running order that Sarah is in season again?? She is one fertile girl!!! We are picking her up from John Ray on Monday after she runs and taking her to Atlanta for a rendezvous with a Rail Dancer straw... I hope she has 14 like her last litter.
Also, I spoke with John Ray late this afternoon and he said that Gent had a clean run with a couple of finds today in the Derby classic. Lots of nice Derbies to go!! I have my fingers crossed.

Hey Ross, What made you choose sara over your guard rail daughter?Yawallac wrote:Did you notice on the running order that Sarah is in season again?? She is one fertile girl!!! Mike,Hey Ross, What made you choose sara over your guard rail daughter?
Sarah's first litter with Strut was fantastic. Her second litter with my Guard Rail grandson already looks just as good or even a little better! I have some very well bred females in my kennel including now two direct Guard Rail daughters, but I picked Sarah for the Rail Dancer straw because I believe the Elhew cross will be excellent. Plus, If you look at her pedigree closely she goes back to Guard Rail six times and Rail Dancer once, so the nick is not a complete outcross by any means. I think it will be an outstanding litter and ties together a number of things that we are trying to accomplish with our long term breeding plans.
...but, if I can get another straw it will go into Girl.
Re: Good luck Ross and Vagas
Gene has a couple of straws there that he wants to use. The rest are in OH. He said that he has used her in the past with success. I'll keep you posted.

Re: Good luck Ross and Vagas
Derby finished up today and Shooting dog started after lunch. Did not hear placements for derby yet.
Re: Good luck Ross and Vagas
I spoke with John Ray and he said that Gent finished out of the ribbons. He needed more bird work but said that he heard a lot of compliments about him. He said that the judges told him that Gent was 4th on their cards (but they probably said that to the other 27 dogs too... ) A good coming out for the boy.
Sarah ran in the first brace of Shooting Dog after lunch and John Ray picked her up at about 45 with an unproductive. Said she wasn't herself and attributed it to her being in heat. Off to Atlanta on Wednesday ....frozen straws can't be very romantic though! Poor girl...
Go get 'em VAGAS!!

Re: Good luck Ross and Vagas
Sorry to hear that. I thought a bitch in heat couldn't participate?

Re: Good luck Ross and Vagas
There are others as well and they are braced with other females...
It is noted on the drawing running order.

Re: Good luck Ross and Vagas
Sharon that is only in single course trials. As Ross mentions, if declared at the time of drawing they will be drawn with another female. If they are already drawn and it is then discovered they will not be redrawn or allowed to run - they are out of the stake.Sharon wrote:Sorry to hear that. Re: Good luck Ross and Vagas
So would only females be run on the course that bitch in heat has run on? ( I'm told vaseline works great. )

Re: Good luck Ross and Vagas
Tuff luck Ross, but they gave it a shot. And them females can do some strange things when they're in season. Was hoping you had the dog to pull an upset and win it. Tracy,Eisenhart and Kinkelaar together had 51 dogs enetered. They all have large strings and are definately hard to beat.Kinda makes it's tuffer for the handler with a few dogs or a small string. But that's competition I guess. But with a little luck you can also beat the best of them on the right day.
Dog On Point!!
Re: Good luck Ross and Vagas
No, but I have known a couple of fellows who had very successful males on the circuit here who claimed they didn't care if you put a bitch in heat with them on their brace - the dog would hunt anyway.
But then when I showed up at a retriever trial with a female for breeding the owner of the male wouldn't let me come anywhere near them - he wouldn't even come and talk to me lest some "smell" might transfer to him and be a distraction to his dog.

Ross, I am just seeing this thread so I won't wish you luck! It sounds like Gent did a very nice job out there. Yep those girls sure can be squirrelly when they are in season!!
WOW you are going all the way to Atlanta???? I would have thought that you would go to Sanford, NC (just outside of Fayetteville) to Dr. Settles. I've used her 3 times and have been very pleased. She has about an 80% success rate for surgical implants. Everyone that I know who has gone to her from Charleston and the surrounding area has had a successful litter.
