Vest

Post by JasonW77 » Sun Mar 22, 2009 5:02 pm

Last season while quail and chukar hunting I torn up my vest prettty bad. I've always just gone out and bought a cheap vest. Now i'm looking into getting something nice and sturdy that will last me a good while. Any suggestions would be great

Personaly I love Filson products. I have a Filson Strap Vest and love it! I wear it whether I'm training dogs in the spring and summer or hunting in the fall and winter. LOVE IT!

Rizz, don't waste your time on anything less than Quilomene. I own 7-8 vests that have been given me over the years and keep coming back to this one. Water storage: plenty. Weight transfer to hips. Room for a Montana limit of pheasants, and you don't have to be double-jointed. And, one-handed opening of shell pockets ... amen.

I much prefer the simple utility of the Headwaters Gunner's Vest found by scrolling down that link to what I've seen of the others listed here. Easy on the back, even loaded to the max, and nothing's flapping around on one's legs or sticking out its sides. And if the water sleeve that holds two quart bottles out of the way beneath the game pouch isn't enough, a 100oz Camelbak system can be slipped into the pocket inside the game bag.

Must admit that when I pick it up on days when I'm taking everything up to and including the kitchen sink, I think, "Holy s...!" Then I put it on and forget it's there until I need something from it.
If you think I'm wrong, you might be right.

(And to see just how confused I really am, join us in my online blind at: Rick's 2009-2010 season log)

I bought a Pheasants Forever, Browning Upland canvas vest about 6 years ago. I have used it every training day, every hunt test, every hunt, and its still going strong. Fits like the first day it was broken in.

Filson pro-guide strap vest. Probably be the last vest you buy.
