Post by dugger13 » Fri Apr 03, 2009 12:36 pm

Is anyone on the forum in the upper wisconsin area and also a woodcock banding expert. i want to hear more about this. I know where they are in the fall, and my dogs love to point them. naturally i need something to do in the spring and this seems like it would be a great time.

This fellow is an expert in Canada. I don't have an e-mail address for him but you can reach him at this forum address:

If you get this lined out and put some "bling" on the little birds, please do come back here and tell us about it. Better still, take a few pictures and show us as well. (Bling is the term that is used by waterfowlers for a bird band.)

If your dogs are steady and can handle sitting it out while chicks are worked up without going crazy, it can be fun.

Usually getting into it is an apprentice thing, you'd need to work with someone who has a permit.

Check this cheap book out--available through RGS--if you want a bit more of a primer on banding.
