Independence Day

Post by blunior » Fri Jul 03, 2009 10:40 pm

This is just a not a goodtime for my one dog.
I wish people could just go outside and yell "Thank You"
The fireworks are tough on my dog and it gets worse every year.

Thanks
Terry

It gets my GSP all wound up. Every time she hears a "boom", she thinks it means a bird is falling from the sky

I can sit in a blind and shoot right next to my GWP and he is fine.
If he hears a firework he is in a different world.
He will be in the basement listening to some good old country tonight.

Happy 4th and thanks to everyone who made it possible for me to hunt and own dogs.

first year we lived in the city, second year we had her kenneled way out in the country, this year our neighbor decided to shoot a bunch of high powered fireworks. dogs got a taste of it last night and ended up under the deck the noise didn't bother them so much, they started looking for "the fall", or in my case "the miss", either way they got an eye full of falling balls of fire they didn't care for too much. was going to remind him that they are illegal in NC but the wife made me play nice with the neighbors. they too are in the house listening to some good ol' tunes.

My GSP totally freaked out over the fire works and escaped from his kennel. He was found about 4 blocks from home and he is not a run off dog. I am just thankful nothing happened to him.

I have one question. Are these dogs also afraid of storms? Just curious and I feel for these poor dogs. The big booms and bright sky get them so stressed out and acting out of character. Like mentioned earlier, you can shoot next to them all day. I wonder what causes this, especially with our gundogs. We know it's not the noise.

Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll enjoy it a second time.

The storms bug him but not near as bad as the fireworks.
Maybe he is looking for a bird to fall when he heres the boom.
With the way I shoot he does alot more looking than fetching (tends to look at me with that pissed off coach look)
Thanks

I have 2 GSP's. The one that freaks out over fireworks acts the same way during a thunder storm.
