new pup what should his name be? female gsp registed name?

Post by sjkennels » Thu Oct 22, 2009 9:11 pm

i am getting a new gsp pup sunday from south wind kennels that has really good blood line that i couldn't pass up and i have been debating since i knew i was going to him what his name should be i have thought of hunter, winchester, Remington, bo or something along those lines that has something to do with hunting or guns besides the bo name and i have a winchester, remington, browning. and what should his registered name should be his sire is NFC Chisholm Creek's Jax Orbetter and the dam is SW's Kojac's Slick Holly

heres are the names in these pups ped

FC Sin City Slick Ace
FC/AFC Grand Illusion's Final Edition
FC H's K-Man Guy m
AFC Pottorff's BMS Destiny's Fate
NFC Heide's Mighty City Slicker
Sin City Slick Spot
FC KJ's Hightailing Saddle
FC AFC Krabby Creek's Grand Illusion
FC AFC Kojac's K-Man
K-Hawk's Rockin Robin JH
NFC Heide's Mighty City Slicker
Cajun's Burning Desire JH

and i have my female gsp and i haven't filled out her papers yet because i can not come up with a registered name for her. her name is bella and she will hunt all day she has a really good nose beautiful on point but when i wanna take a break she will lay down by me and if she comes in the house she is really good and just lays in my lap and follows me around where ever i go. but thats a little about her personality

so if you would help me pick a name for the dogs.

When selecting a call name, choose something that doesn't sound like a command you will give.

Boy do I love that name Jax Orbetter. :D

That, with the Sin City Ace in the pedigree would have me leaning toward a gambling name, but that's just me. I like to gamble. South Wind's Texas Hold 'em or something. Call him Tex.

My dog Winnie's call name is short for Winchester, but it has no relation to her UKC registered name.

I like all the names so far. If I end up keeping the one in my avatar, which is a littermate to the one that sjkennels will be picking up on Sunday, I have considered naming him Duece. The AKC name would be SW's Dueces Wild. I am flattered that everyone is including the "SW" in the name. Shawn is more than welcome to use it, although I do not require it. I run the same general bloodline in all my dogs, so I try to include the "SW" to signify my name along with the dog's call name and something that symbolizes his bloodline. As you can see in my signature, my shorthairs are based on the lines from Blue Dawn Kennels. They have an outstanding line of dogs based off the breeding of NFC Sanjo Sin City Slicker to NGDC FC Heide-Ho Pinehurst. Every new pup I get, I struggle with finding a good, unique name. There are only so many dogs I can name slick's, touch of, sin city, magnum's... and so on :D

How about: Slick Jax's Blowin Smoke

That gets the Sire, Dam and Kennel (in a round about kind of way) in the name.

When I saw Aces High I thought it would be the best name anyone would come up with. Try shouting "Ace" outdoors a few times to see if that handle carries well before you decide on that call name though.

Good point.
Ace does sound like "hey", which tends to get used on dogs. :) Joe would sound like "Whoa" etc....

They say to use a one syllable name that has that burst of air at the beginning, like the P sound at the beginning. Two syllable words like Brandy aren't ideal as all the dog hears is the first syllable. I have dogs of which two are ...Tess and Case..... not good as they sound similiar.

If your dog is ever afield with other dogs you'd like to minimize any confusion. Also some names are easy to say softly but a lot more difficult to shout. That's the biggest reason I suggested you try hollaring the name outside. Personally I don't shout out "Ace" as well as some other call names. If it's good enough for you that's all that matters.
