multiple dog sports

Post by Hondo » Mon Jun 14, 2010 3:39 pm

Is there any negatives/positives to having a dog be active in more than one sport? Can a trained hunting dog do multiple sports such as agility, flyball, field trials, dock jumping, disc dog, etc and still remain a good hunting dog? Will training a dog to participate in various sports diminish the dog's hunting ability/training?

Once my pup is trained for hunting I was thinking of letting her try agility when she gets older.

Anyone else have dogs that do multiple sports?

I don't personally hunt but I often competed in obedience & conformation with my Brittany that my dad successfully hunted with during hunting season. My current dogs have all done a mix of hunt tests, dock diving, agility, conformation, tracking, obedience, & rally. I think a dog (well at least a Brittany :-) can to multiple things.

Sorry the website is still a work on progress & the above dogs have new titles I haven't included yet. Also ran out of room to list sire & dam on two of them because they have just as many if not more titles than the dogs shown.
