I shot a radio controlled duck this morning!
Okay, it's not radio controlled, but it was fun telling the nephews that...
It's actually the first radio-tagged anything I've ever shot. (two bands, and radio-tagged)
I haven't entered the ID onto the appropriate website yet. If anything fancy pops up, I'll let y'all know.
You can see the antenna coming out of the duck (a ringneck) in the photo fairly clearly.
Radio Controlled Duck!
Re: Radio Controlled Duck!
Well, now I'm a bit disappointed.
I called in to report the bands/duck. The person who took the information was not interested at all in anything other than gathering the tag information. I'm not blaming that person, of course- they're just doing their job. I'm more unhappy with the system. I couldn't find any information about the duck, it's history, or what in the world the radio attached to it is. I kept the duck chilled in case DNR or someone wanted to retrieve the radio equipment. Or maybe they wanted me to send it back. Or maybe the stuff is so inexpensive for them now that it's single-use (likely). The online band site (referred by the band itself) had no information. The 800-number had no information. Just sort of bummed I couldn't get a little more information out of the process than I did.
I guess the inner-geek in me can't stand having some electronics in my posession without knowing what it's doing.
Ah well, back to stomping around in the woods...

Re: Radio Controlled Duck!
Probably a sneeky way of getting that equipment into your house so they can monitor your activities and listen to your conversations. I'd be a little upset too, if no one is able or interested in providing the info.MataPAto wrote:Well, now I'm a bit disappointed.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Thanks for the link Pepper... Unfortunately, I didn't find any directly useful information on the site you provided. But I was encouraged, and used some very advanced techniques (typed "ring-necked radio telemetry" into google, haha!) to discover this link, which is likely the study related the the bird I shot. I'm kinda "in the zone" with respect to the maps shown in the link.

MataPAto, This is a pretty neat site that might help.

Even when I call them into the 1-800-327-BAND (1-800-327-2263) number it took about a week for them to send out the cetificate with all of the banding info(Who, where, and when it was banded).
