Re: hta
Never worked with one that I liked enough to own. To many holes, one would be a fighter next would be weak, skittish, weird around the gun, birds, or horse. I could go on and on. I actually had a client dog here that literally tore the face of off a young prospect of mine without ANY provocation.

Re: hta
I have a young HTA grandson from Caladen Kennels that is turning out to be a very nice dog. Zero interest in fighting, intelligent, quiet and calm in the kennel and house, but really turns it on in the field. Good nose, nice style, covers a lot of ground, and a very solid retriever. Also the most cooperative dog I've owned; seems very interested in making me happy. Not sure how much of all that can be attributed to HTA, as this dog also has some Miller on top, and the bottom half of his pedigree is all Rebel, but I couldn't be happier with the dog.
HTA has a lot of detractors, but there also seem to be quite a few HTA-bred dogs around, so he evidently had a attribute or two that folks liked....

Honky Tonk Attitude dogs tend to run with a flat tail, but point with good style, and have incredible noses. As was stated earlier there wasn't a whole lot of consistency in his pups. That could have very well came from the females as well, since he was bred an awful lot. Some people really like them and some people try to stay away from them. But that goes with every bloodline out there. I know several trialers who like to have some HTA blood in their dogs, for their nose, but they don't want it too close. Scott Miller and Stan Wint have had a lot of success with his offspring. I have a great-grandson to HTA through his dams side and he probably has the best nose of any of my dogs.

Re: hta
The absolute best Pointer noses I have seen were out of HTA and Shadow's Attitude. Ckirch's dog was by an HTA son of mine that had probably the best nose I have ever seen on a bird dog. ...but as I have told Craig many, many times the good stuff in his dog ...came from his momma!!
Point is that if you cross the HTA stuff right you can get some good results. I love the nose and the crank.
