Dog won't go in kennel run
My 8 month old EP usually goes to work with me, but due to the setup on the last few jobs and the heat he has been staying in his outside kennel lately.
He won't go in it. Won't even pee I'm pretty sure. 4' x 16' run.
Today he held it for 12 hours. He did go right before I put him in it, but still...
Anyone else ever have a dog that wouldn't even pee in a run?
He was really easy to housebreak though!

We have one that will hold it until her eyeballs turn yellow, sometimes 24 hours, if she's on concrete. Have to put her in a pen with some dirt.
Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig.

Just be glad you don't have a Poo artist.

I was starting to think I may have to for him...Cajun Casey wrote:We have one that will hold it until her eyeballs turn yellow, sometimes 24 hours, if she's on concrete. Have to put her in a pen with some dirt.
That would be the Redbone in the run next to him. Worthless dog, but she's sweet and the wife loves her...birddog1968 wrote:Just be glad you don't have a Poo artist.

I have finger painters LOL... The dog will eventually have to go. Are you sure the dog isn't eating his poo? With stress of no one there, sometimes dog's get anxiety as well.

He has to go the instant he gets out, NO signs of anything in the run.Ahumphers91a wrote:I have finger painters LOL... The dog will eventually have to go. Are you sure the dog isn't eating his poo? With stress of no one there, sometimes dog's get anxiety as well.

Some dogs consider the run their home just like a crate and won't mess in their home.

Re: Dog won't go in kennel run
funny thing but it may work for ya..a friend of ours that has labs had the same problem with one of his labs and he put a sand box in the outside run for the dog to go and sure enough, he goes..like a huge litter box in building our kennel i have seen and heard all kinds of suggestions and i was on a site that the guy actually built an area of pebble stones in the run with a drain system under the pebble stone so the dogs had a place to go so thats what we are doing as well...ruth

Texan-
How well is your concrete sloped? I am only asking bc if the dog pees, and there is not enuf slope or drainage then it just sits there and the dog gets into it. I had mine sloped pretty good. The dogs learned quickly that if they go to the south end of the kennel (next to the gate) and pee, it all runs out of their area.
Don't know how well this applies or helps ya, but I thought it might be something to consider.

Exactly sharon, just like crate training. They don't like to go where the lie.

Re: Dog won't go in kennel run
My dog is in her kennel a good 10 hrs a day and rarely goes in her run. She did more as a pup but hasn't in a long time. One less thing to clean up on a daily basis.
Re: Dog won't go in kennel run
I have 2 dogs in a 10 x 10 kennel when I'm gone for work. They will hold it all day long, but one usually excitedly pees a giant puddle as we're coming up the drive. After we open the kennel door, they bolt out and do a synchronized poo.
Re: Dog won't go in kennel run
I have two that are the same way. Just clean dogs that don't like looking at poop in there kennel...if they can help it.

Re: Dog won't go in kennel run
My Ginger wont. She is the cleanest dog, my boys will pee but none of them poo in the runs. I let em out and off they go just like a horse race.Anyone else ever have a dog that wouldn't even pee in a run?
Count yer blessings clean dogs are best for house dogs.

Re: Dog won't go in kennel run
Oh, I'm glad for sure. Definitely nice since he's a house dog when we are a home!
I had just never had a dog as clean as him, or been around one.

Re: Dog won't go in kennel run
My girl won't go in her kennel, however when at the trainer, will do it in his kennel. I'm guessing it is because she lives there so has no choice, whereas here at home, she will be let out and stays in the house... my little guy can't wait to pee and poo in his run. I've seen him hold it running around the yard, then when I put him in his kennel, he does both within the first minute. Kinda funny but guaranteed work for me!
