More Brittany Talk - Grooming

Post by ROTTnBRITT » Wed Jun 29, 2011 1:06 pm

Do any britt owner have there dogs hair cut for before hunting season? Im not talking shaved, just trimmed up. I would think it would make getting burr and such out of the coat easier.

Just curious :D

I alway trim them if I am hunting in areas with burrs. You can shorten the feathering if needed, cleanup the armpits and belly area, and clip out behind the ears. But my dogs are fairly short, straight coated dogs that don't hold on the the burrs like longer, softer, curly coats.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

clip them short twice furring them summer and do the same thing Ezzy said arm pits belly behind ears feathering and depending on how much fur is in between their pads I clip that too keeps ice balls from forming in the pad.

Is that the reason people own shorthairs? I thought it was because they had never hunted with a britt!! :D :D

Does this mean GSP owners are electing to hunt behind a inferior breed just because they are too lazy to trim a little hair? Just asking!

I agree with Ezzy. I will probably "clip" them here in a month or so, and just maintain with a thinning shears and scissors. I must say a furminator goes in the field bag just for those pesky burrs. It saves my sanity and its alot easier on the dogs!
