114 degrees and high humidity
114 degrees and high humidity
was what they said it felt like, I take 2 metal buckets fill them wit hwater and freeze them over nite. Makes a good popsickle for the dogs to mess with. I read about it here someone else had posted this so I give it a try. Works nicely. I also filled up a kiddie pool (Them kids chased me for a mile) with water and a 20 lb block of ice. Hope it cools off soon.

No, we are in a heat wave, a big one. The water from the flooding has made the humidity levels like 99%, bugs are very bad too with all the water. Soon it will be winter tho and we will complain about the coldIs that the norm where your at

I feel your pain.... we've been here in the Omaha area since last Wednesday. We have humidity in PA, but nothing like what they are having here right now! Hard to breath, sweat running in your eyes just standing still. It's just miserable!
Waiting for this to break somewhat before heading out to the sandhills to drop dogs at summer camp. Sitting in a state park, RV plugged in, AC running night and day, taking a dip in the lake around 8 pm and then trying to get the dogs into the lake to cool them down.
Not fun!

Talk about bugs, god Tony and I tried to fish yesterday, it's no fun breathing this No SeeUms, and they bite like Pit Bulls. Horrible. The humidity the other day was 100% and the heat was 89. We've got enought here for the whole U.S. It's bad and I've spent a fortune on different sprays. I've got some Ultra Shield for the dogs. Re: 114 degrees and high humidity
A little relief is in sight, forecasted for low nineties next week. Knew it was bad yesterday when it was 103 and the trees in the distance looked like they were in fog from the muggy haze. One day last week had grayish skies without a cloud in the sky. Humidity was down to 45% today at 102*, the only good thing about being over 100 with no rain is the humidity will start to drop.

At least yall have humidity. Here it is about 20-30% humidity and over 100 every single day. It is in the mid 80's every single night. Hot, dry, fire laden and miserable with no rain in sight.
Re: 114 degrees and high humidity
Iowa is swltering right now. I have a test I am trying to train for in Sept and this heat is setting us back. Frustrating asI am new to doing this kind of training and I need time to make and fix mistakes, but in this heat I wont train at all.

I'd DANG SURE take the humidity for some precip right now. Sounds like a good trade. Some of the pics above at least show green on the ground. There is no green here unless your soaking it with copious quantities of water. My entire yard is stone cold dead.

8 am, sitting on the picnic table having my morning coffee and it's actually rather pleasant. Breezey, no humidity yet......time to head out to the sandhills!
Luckily, this too shall pass and we'll be moaning about snow soon enough. Be careful with the pooches in this weather, they can drop fast on you! Plenty of water for man and beast.
Good training!

A Minneapolis weatherman describes a dew point of >80ºF as "unbearable". After 3 days, I have to agree. You can not legally dress light enough to work outside when you have 97º and a dew point of 82. You can not breath or lose body heat fast enough. My 40 year old air conditioner is still working.

No complaints about 30 below temps here. That is comfortable deer stand weather for me. My thoughts have always been, If it is cold, I can bundle up and get warm. But when it is hot, like stated above you cant take enough close off legally to get comfortable.
When I was in the military, I worked int he engine/boiler room of our ship I tolerated it it well, even doing drills in the heat in Cuba. But now, in my old age, I find I am less and less heat tolerant. Go figure.
I would love to find a place in the states to live where it is about 70 degrees year round.

My yard is nothing but dirt not even any dead grass. No decent rain since September of last year. It was 87 degrees at midnight last night right before I went to bed. As soon as the sun comes up it is in the mid 90's and by about 11 am it is over 100.

My dad and stepmom just got back from a trip through New Mexico and all the way down to El Paso about a 1200 mile 5 day trip to Carrizozo to the Valley of the Fires, Ruidoso to the track, Carlsbad to the caverns, and down to El Paso to sightsee and visit our old neighborhood and dad said everywhere they went it was cooler and more pleasant than what it is where we are. Many places are like this in the summer, it is why I dont live there like KY in July and August, was on the ohio border one nioght camped, the skeeters were out in full swing they done carried a gal away. Heat was 95 at midnight, pool was busted.snips wrote:

I expect that in them places, but not here, it just isnt normal for this region. I must admit tho, my place seems 10 or 15 degrees cooler than the city is. Shade trees, a breeze is what I have at home. Work outside every night after I get off work till 9 or so. I dont even change now, the shirt is soaked by the time I get home but the motorcycle I ride isnt A/Ced get 40 mpg tho s oit is a good trade off.

Guymon, Huh? I was there for a horrid 17 day stretch at the ADM plant out there next to the highway. We were contracted to lower and rebuild the "Texas Stacker" that is right there along the road, a couple years ago. It sucked.

I just got back from 10 days in Kansas City and man was I glad to leave that miserable heat and humidity. Growing up there I guess I didn't think too much about it. Now, it about kills me to go back there for very long. I'll definitely take 108+ degrees dry heat over that miserable humidity.
Re: 114 degrees and high humidity
It has been bad here, you missed out on a decent day here today though. Pretty stiff winds all day dried the air out a little, was 102 and the heat index was only 108, thats what 9 straight days in the 100s with no rain will do for ya. Was 101 in my garage and reloading room, figured I better take advantage of the weather and got a few boxes reloaded this afternoon.okchiefsfan wrote:I just got back from 10 days in Kansas City and man was I glad to leave that miserable heat and humidity. It has been in the high 80's low 90's and we have had some rain not a whole lot but we'll take all we can get.okchiefsfan wrote:I glanced at the thermometer when I came in from doing some yard work with a dog and at 8:30 it was 100.3 degrees. Re: 114 degrees and high humidity
I told my wife when we got home from KC that we need to quit the whining about it being hot here in Guymon. Yes it was hot, but it did not compare to the heat and humidity feel in eastern Kansas.JessiNGunther wrote:Holy cats Ruth thats HOT . When i see temps like that i think of Arizona. Are you kidding! The humidity is what is awful. I'll take 110 degrees in AZ anyday over even 85 and humid in PA. Yeeeuck.JessiNGunther wrote:Holy cats Ruth thats HOT . Right there 150 yards from the house I live in Iowa, across from north Omaha via the mormon bridge that is closed so it is now a one hour ride inrto work. I do work in an old building too, was built around 1850 or so is an old army fort and the buildings are to be left as they are for historical reasons.I think we should all come hang out with you. where's your barn
Got up to a lite rain, is low 80s today but the heat is comong back soon. On vacation tomorrrow and next week too.
Going fishing.

Re: 114 degrees and high humidity
We have a 350 year old oak tree spread over our house and lawn. Lawn is a lush green. Only time we curse it is when we have to rake the leaves or deal with the nut fall every 7 years. Ever tried raking nuts a foot deep? I 'm glad some First Nations Person planted that tree.jarbo03 wrote:Still a little green in the NE part of the state, but drying out fast. Sucks about teh weather down your way, turkey hunted on some land SW of you this spring, saw good numbers of breeding birds, not looking so good anymore. Doesn't seem like long ago that we were complaining about the 30 below temps.prairiefirepointers wrote:+1tommyboy72 wrote:At least yall have humidity. Here it is about 20-30% humidity and over 100 every single day. It is in the mid 80's every single night. Hot, dry, fire laden and miserable with no rain in sight.
I'd DANG SURE take the humidity for some precip right now. Sounds like a good trade. Some of the pics above at least show green on the ground. There is no green here unless your soaking it with copious quantities of water. My entire yard is stone cold dead.
