Ivomec
Ivomec
O.K. I am thinking about switching from heartguard to the swine and cattle version. How many use this? This stuff is given orally in dogs right but it is a injection for cattle? Is this the same stuff? I have heard before the dose is 1/10th of 1 cc per 10 lbs of bodyweight is this the dose everyone uses? So I would give my 50lb dogs half a cc right?

Re: Ivomec
Yes it is the same stuff. Although there is another version called Ivomec Plus, DO NOT USE THIS !!
My vet has confirmed the 1/10th of 1 cc per 10 lbs of bodyweight. So you are correct. I just inject it into a hot dog as the taste is horrible to dogs.
If you have trouble finding at your local farm store you can purchase it online at

There are all kinds of doses out there. I have read as much as 10 times the dose you listed. But it does seem that 10th of a cc per 10lbs is the most common dose. That is a 1% solution for cattle and swine. This is also not to be used for herding breeds.

One more question. This is given monthly right?

I've never wormed for them. I take a stool sample and have it checked once a year and it's always been clean. Guess what I am saying is I never worm a dog unless it is needed.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.
