Ivomec

Post by ohiogsp » Fri Jun 02, 2006 8:35 pm

O.K. I am thinking about switching from heartguard to the swine and cattle version. How many use this? This stuff is given orally in dogs right but it is a injection for cattle? Is this the same stuff? I have heard before the dose is 1/10th of 1 cc per 10 lbs of bodyweight is this the dose everyone uses? So I would give my 50lb dogs half a cc right?

I have always given 1/10 cc per 20 lbs. The total dose I give most dogs is about 3/10th of a cc. I know people use the dose you posted, but the dose I listed also works. Will also deworm for everything but whips and tapes. I have used it for probably 20 yrs. It is great stuff.

Yes it is the same stuff. Although there is another version called Ivomec Plus, DO NOT USE THIS !!

My vet has confirmed the 1/10th of 1 cc per 10 lbs of bodyweight. So you are correct. I just inject it into a hot dog as the taste is horrible to dogs.

If you have trouble finding at your local farm store you can purchase it online at

There are all kinds of doses out there. I have read as much as 10 times the dose you listed. But it does seem that 10th of a cc per 10lbs is the most common dose. That is a 1% solution for cattle and swine. This is also not to be used for herding breeds.

I'm with snips. We have used it for over 20 years and never had a problem.

I use 1/10cc per ten lbs. Oral, and I just squirt it on some bread. They gobble it down.

I too use the 1/10th per 10 lbs body weight
I was told not to use plus or Ivermec for swine only use the one for cattle.
I just squirt it on the back of their tongue.

I've never wormed for them. I take a stool sample and have it checked once a year and it's always been clean. Guess what I am saying is I never worm a dog unless it is needed.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!

Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

I use Droncit for Tapes, only if I see them in the stool. Whips are not a common worm for them to get, so I don`t mess with it. I think if they get Whips you will know pretty quick, as they get a real bloody loose stool.

Can pups in their first worming take this? Is there an age limit you know-it-alls  would use this?

My take on Ivomec (ivermectin) is if its safe to give your dog/pup heartguard, It should be safe to do Ivomec.

They say it is not neccisary to use it until the pup is 6 months old because of the heartworms life cycle. I have used it at 4 months tho. Young pups I like to deworm with Nemex.
