Brittany and ears
Question for the Brittany standards police:
- My 1.5 yr old Britt's ears are high on the head and flop/lay straight over but I've seen Britts from notable bloodines who's ears are lower on the sides and tend to "hang." Don't know if I'm explaining correctly but thought I would post for feedback.
I suppose one doesn't mean anything over the other - just different. I was looking at pics of Nolan's Last Bullet and his ears seem to hang too....? In the ring, does it matter? I have no intention ever to show dogs but thought I'd ask.

Re: Brittany and ears
Supposed to be high and short. Low long ears are typical springer.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

Re: Brittany and ears
Notable bloodlines? Did they have anything to do with conformation?
Ears should be high and short according to the standard, but do you really thing NLB should not have been trialed in the field because his hears hung too low?
I know two rather successful breeders of Dual Champion dogs who say that ears are one of the hardest things to keep outside of field ability.

Re: Brittany and ears
I see a reasonable question asked about the conformation of a Brittany and no where was there an indication that he was thinking anything more than that. I think we both answered the question. I don't know what prompted you to ask about running in trials or such.slistoe wrote:Notable bloodlines? Did they have anything to do with conformation?

Buddy would definitely NOT have been a DC.

Re: Brittany and ears
I was referencing Buddy as a popular dog to this forum as one who's ears were closely resembling what I was asking about.
Was trying to get a feel for what was standard -- not meaning to point out Buddy as non-standard dog, but when comparing Britts, what was "the" look.

Re: Brittany and ears
You have to remember that the ears will look considerably different when the dog is alert and the ears are cocked compared to just being relaxed.

Re: Brittany and ears
I've got 2 sister Brits one with great looking ears and one with lower hangers, guess which one is the better hunter. Like they say" no dog is perfect". And just to make my previous comment clear... I think buddy was a great dog, just not a bench prospect.
