more on pigeon lofts

I got my post holes dug out today, wanted to get it done before the ground froze. I am building a raised loft, thinking 2 ft off the ground. The dimensions of the loft will be 4'x3'x3', with an extra foot on the front side for the roof slope. That will come out around 40 cubic feet, is that enough for 6-12 pigeons? the base will be 12sq feet, figuring 1 sq' for each pigeon. Also some placs I have seen have a gable roof instead of a shed roof and they extend one side a lot higher than the other so they can put a vent there and also prevent birds from hanging out on the roof. I was just going to do a shed roof for simplicity. Ideas?

I have a hard time following your dimensions. I have always figured just the square footage at 2 ft. per bird. Your loft seems small. There is a problem that no matter how big you make it you will exceed 2 ft. per bird.

I have a 4X4 X4 with a 2x2 aviry I buy pigeons from a guy who seems to know it all its his job he said I can have 13 to 14 birds I have 12 now they are doing great here is a pic

Your loft/aviary are pretty much exactly what I am going for, but instead of 4x4x4 its going to be 4x3x4.

It sure works good for me if I can keep the hawks away birds are all locked down for winter, but will be ready to race and train the dog this spring, I also like the trap style door rather than a bob style birds seem to go through it better are you going to have homers or barn birds?

If I was at a rental I would make sure I could take it with me when it is time to move. Not in the ground and fit in a trailer would be my design criteria.

Yeah I'll be able to take it with me even though it'll be in the ground, I'm making it to fit in a truck bed/trailer.

What are "trap style" doors? The funnels you use in recall pens? Also, will bob style doors let predators in?
