I am looking to come down to Salina in April for a turkey hunt with my brother. He just moved to Salina and is looking for some birds to hunt his dog. I would also be looking to come to Kansas to bird hunt this fall. Is that a possibillity?
Thanks
Brandon

http://www.progundog.com/ This is where we stayed when my son and I pheasant hunted this fall. Travis is a very nice guy. If I remember correctly we had 5 bedrooms and 5 baths for us. The house is awsum with mounts all over. It has been in the family for years. Firepit, dog kennels, metal art all over the yard. Worth a look, and pretty cheap.
Re: looking for a cheap place to hunt in kansas
Bird season is closed for hunting even on game preserves in Ks in March. If you want to work dogs that is a different story, although with the mild winter I would bet quail are starting to pair. I would recommend working on wild birds. Cheapest bang for the buck is walk in ground but you cant work on it after season, you will really piss off some landowners if your out there also. Best case scenario find someone that has birds(pen raised) with a dog training licence, they can shoot the birds for your dog while you work the dog. Good luck.

I've hunted with these guys a few times, great experiences. They have very reasonable fees and it's very cheap to rent a hotel room in Larned.
