What would you think?
I found this pic of a german shorthair online. What would you think about this dog if you went to look at him for a possible stud or to buy? Just curious

Re: What would you think?
Nice looking dog that looks like it has field lines. That's all you will know untill you get there and/or see a pedigree. If the pedigree is good, I'd go with it. There are those that will tell you to see how it works in the field. If it is field blood, and I believe it is, you can watch it work in the field and you'll see a dog somewhere between not trained to superbly trained. Count on the blood!
I pity the man that has never been loved by a dog!

Re: What would you think?
He doesn't look that special. He probably wouldn't throw any nice pups. I'd pass on him.

I don't think "nice" mattered. At least not in the personality department.

Re: What would you think?
Actually, if you put a little weight on him and stacked him correctly, he wasn't too far off conformation standards of the day. A bit snipey, but it could be the fact that his head isn't shown well.

Re: What would you think?
He is not good in many areas of the day or any other day. Was a great dog in the history of the breed but it sure wasn't for conformation then or now.

It's not how many breaths you have taken but how many times it has been taken away!
Has anyone noticed common sense isn't very common anymore.

He produced two. He was also the son of a DC producer.brad27 wrote:Yet, he produced a DC.ezzy333 wrote:He is not good in many areas of the day or any other day. Was a great dog in the history of the breed but it sure wasn't for conformation then or now.

Re: What would you think?
That's good but he produced a lot of pups and only two qualified which is pretty poor odds. But we are talking Rusty and not what he produced. He deserves credit for a lot of things but conformation is not one of them.

Re: What would you think?
Ezzy just because only 2 accomplished a DC doesn't mean there couldn't have been more if they had been given the chance. Most the people that bred to Rusty did not breed to him for the show ring.
He was bred an awful lot much more then even we would guess probably so if you only go by the ones finished the odds are still against him,now if every pup he produced were given the chance to be trialed & shown & the results were the same it would be very poor record. That being said we only have the record to go by just like the dogs we own we can say we have the best dog in the world but only proving it
in some sort of venue helps to establish that.
There are many good dogs out there that NEVER produce as good as they are & there are very poor dogs that would produce better them some of those good dogs but it never happens only because no one will breed to them, including me.That is a fact that I'm sure some will argue but a fact it is.
